Curtains Blackout

How many people over 40 years of age, would work different shifts? For instance a couple?

PM shifts then a couple AM shifts. You know it will affect your sleep pattern and is not healthy.Plus people can make more mistakes.
(I read it in one of the magazines re: sleep deprivation.
I realize it is hard to find jobs today. Would you do it for 3 months and if the company did not change your schedule would you quit and give a two week notice?

Any helpful suggestions or advice on how to work on minimal sleep?

I just began an 80 hour weekly work schedule. I don’t plan on doing this for way too long, however the money is far too good to pass it up. There are 3 consecutive days where I will work 9pm-5am and then work 6/7 am-5pm. As you can see, with driving and everything else considered, I may be able to get 2-3 hours of sleep maximum between the 19 hour shifts of hell. So this leads to my question. Does anyone else have experience working a maximized schedule such as mine? What did you do to stay in the game mentally? My work can be highly labor intensive, but my only real concern is my mental state. Energy drinks, fruits, water? What else could one suggest?

What would be the compensation for someone to be an oncall employee at work?

I am a Assistant Innkeeper at a Bed and Breakfast in California. I am trying to find the labor law that applies to this situation. My Innkeeper would like to have one of our employees stay the night so he can finally go on vacation. However, we do not know how much pay the employee should receive. We do know that it is considered an 8 hour shift if the sleep overnight but how much pay? Would it be minimum wage? Less or more?

Please help. Thank you.

Changing work shifts. Grave shift is killing me…?

I work for an employer where we provide 24 hour services for the public. I was not originally hired to worMy supervisor stated to me over a year ago that the switch to grave’s would only be for a few months until the hired a replacement. Well, it’s been over a year and I am always tired, I go to school p/t during the day twice a week, and my husband works an opposite shift so we see eachother occasionally. I honestly think it is affecting my heath as I just can’t sleep during the day (I’m lucky to get 3-4 hours most days). I have a white-noise machine, turn the phone off, dark curtains, tylenol PM, etc…I’ve brought this up before with my employer and my concerns fell on deaf ears. My employer also has extra help employees that have a set schedule as opposed to being available for f/t employees vacations, sick time, etc…

I cannot quit as the money is too good for my field. Any suggestions? Get a Dr’s note (will that work)? Anything else? I’m also covered under a union.

I’m taking a new job with different hours bc I can’t stand it. Is this normal for ppl on 3rd shift. I just thought by now id be used to it. Is our bodies just not made to work night shifts.
